Iskraemeco signed a contract with Slovene electric utility Elektro Gorenjska

Kranj, 27 May 2009: Today Iskraemeco signed a contract with the Slovene electric utility Elektro Gorenjska for delivery of an integrated system for remote meter reading. The system will cover 85,000 household consumers of electric energy. The contract includes not only delivery of equipment - meters, central communication and software - but also installation and startup.

Iskraemeco has been investing in the development of systems for remote meter reading for some years. In addition to already operating systems which have been successfully started in Sweden and Finland in recent years, Iskraemeco has also developed a new generation of the system for automatic meter reading. Slovenia follows the European trend to replace all electricity meters with the so-called smart meters or meters for AMR systems until 2020. After the success achieved on Scandinavian markets, Iskraemeco ranks among the leading providers of such systems in all European countries (Netherlands, France, Germany, etc.) which are among the first to introduce integrated systems for measurement and billing of electric energy and replace old meters with new >>smart<< meters.

Elektro Gorenjska is the first electric utility in Slovenia which decided to replace all meters with new ones and to connect them in an integrated system. The complete project is technologically designed in accordance with the most sophisticated European standards and directives used for electricity meters enabling interoperability and offering new possibilities for data reading about consumption of other types of energy with the existing meters (gas, water, etc.). Advanced technology will enable better monitoring of customer's energy consumption by means of (special) advanced, user-friendly displays installed. Data access and consumption analysis can be performed via internet. A complete replacement of meters will take approx. five years. In the first phase, Iskraemeco will (set) implement an integrated central system with software and hardware for a two-way communication with the meters, validation and storing of all data as well as for their preparation for billing. A system for end-user support will also be provided.
